Welcome to UAMS! I’m Ryan Dare,
president of Associated Student Government (ASG).
ASG is the student governing body that represents the College of Medicine,
College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing, College of Public Health, College
of Health Related Professions and the Graduate School. We help in making
the political decisions, and do so with you in mind. However, without
student input it is hard to know exactly what the student body desires. So
I encourage all students to get to know their representatives, ask
questions, and provide input to ASG members.
I would also like to challenge all students to become more involved with
the activities which we sponsor. These include Red Cross Blood Drives,
purchase of magazines for the library, student body parties and events,
including the annual Halloween party and a spring event, and much more!
These events are to help provide opportunities for students to relax and
take a break from the hectic life that students have. They are also to
help form relationships between the different professions that will be
serving the public in the near future.
Finally, I would like to invite all UAMS Students to be more active by
attending ASG meetings which are held the second Monday of every month.
Students may also view the ASG bulletin board for other information. The
board can be found on the South end of the concourse hall. This will help
students to stay informed and allow them to give direct input to the
governing body on ways we can better serve the student body.

What is the Associated Student Government
(ASG)?
ASG was formed to legislate and administer
student policy. ASG works to make the University a more helpful environment
for students in both academic and extra-curricular areas. “We represent
the students to the administration and serve as a unified voice to benefit
the students.”
The
purpose of University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Associated
Student Government is to act as a liaison between the students and the
faculty/administration. It is expected that all senators will lead by
example, setting high standards of conduct, spirit, and achievement.
The ASG attempts to protect and advance student interests. The ASG
also attempts to promote the welfare of the students by providing a
harmonious and effective learning process; a forum for expression; and
economic, social, and cultural advancement so that students can better
themselves and their community.
The duty
of the Associated Student Government is to establish and facilitate communication
between all campus constituencies; provide assistance, as needed, to all
members of the community; assist in the formulation and implementation
of University policies and practices; and promote elements of integrity,
professionalism, and impartiality.
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences ASG exists to represent
and act in the interests of the students. The Associated Student Government
has created an academic and extra-curricular environment benefiting students
through its programs and works to sustain and improve them each year.
Associated Student Government is funded by and operates on activity
fees paid by students. All enrolled students are members of and are
represented by the ASG. You are encouraged to become acquainted with
the officers and class representatives and communicate to them matters
that warrant ASG consideration. In order to serve effectively, the ASG
needs your support and that of the entire student body.

Introduction to the NCA
NCA Mission
Statement
"Serving the Common Good
by Assuring and
Advancing the Quality of
Higher Learning"
The
North Central
Association (NCA) is one of six regional
accrediting agencies made up of member organizations
from nineteen states. Two independent commissions are
also members of NCA, one of which is the Higher Learning
Commission (HLC), in Chicago
Illinois . The HLC is the entity that holds the legal
authority to conduct accrediting activities for
institutions of higher learning in the north central
region, including UAMS.
While the process takes
place in higher learning institutions, the accreditation
involves review of the whole institution not just its
academic programs. It also assesses governance and
administration, financial stability, admissions and
study personnel services, resources, student academic
achievement, organizational effectiveness, and
relationships with outside constituencies.
