Instructions for Downloading Sequences

1.  You will receive a link each time you sequence. The first time you sequence with us, you will be assigned a password. Please remember it for future sequence deliveries. When you click on the link, you will be directed to a logon page where you will enter your password.

2. When you enter your password, you will be directed to the page containing your results. Please save your results to your own computer immediately. Our server space is limited and we can't keep results pages available indefinately. Your page will usually be deleted after a few days.

The results page is made up of three sections:

a.) The Zip file section contains all of your results compressed into a zip file (chromatograms and text files). If you have a large number of files to deal with, this is the best and quickest way to save them all to your computer. To view your results, this file will need to be extracted. You can download JustZipIt here. It is a quick and easy to use extraction utility.

b.) The Chromatogram section contains only the chromatograms of your sequences. These files have the extension ".ab1" and can only be used with a chromatogram viewer. Please see our Downloads and Useful Links page to get a free chromatogram viewer.

c.) The Text Files section contains only the text files of your sequences. In Explorer, they will open up in a new window if you click on the link. You can right click on the link and select "Save Target as . . ." to save the file directly to your computer.

3. Your files are labeled by the following nomenclature:

Examples:  A01_ yourtemplatename_primer .txt

                 A01_ yourtemplatename_primer .ab1

The "A01_" is more for our information and indicates that particular reaction's position on a 96 well plate.

The "_ yourtemplatename_ " part of the label indicates the plasmid or PCR product you're sequencing and "_ primer " indicates the primer used for that reaction.

We make it a point to separate every aspect of a label with an underscore  "_" so if things get confusing, check the underscores to tell which reaction you're dealing with.

4.  If you can't open your files, make sure you are using a chromtogram viewer for the .ab1 files and a text editor such as Notepad or Wordpad for the text files. If you still can't open your files you are having problems that are beyond our ability to help you.  Please contact your computer support office.  The UAMS computer help number is 686-8555.
