JULY - DECEMBER 2008 TRAINING CALENDAR

RCM FOR EXISTING STAFF
There are a number of employees performing registrations who have attended Registration Workstation, but not Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) [previously Strengthening Bridges]. We understand that many managers would like to send their staff to RCM, but are unable to send them for 3 consecutive days due to staffing issues. Therefore, during the months of July, August, and September only, RIST will be offering RCM on 3 consecutive Fridays during each month. The dates are listed on the calendar above, and are also posted on the Training Tracker Website. The first Friday session begins July 11. In order to host these classes, RIST will require a minimum of 6 employees per session.

NEW EMPLOYEE TRAINING FOR PATIENT ACCESS PERSONNEL
Beginning in July, all new employees will only be granted Registration Workstation security after completing the following sequence of classes:

  1. Registration Workstation
  2. Pathways Healthcare Scheduling (PHS)
  3. Revenue Cycle Management (RCM)

Again, security will be granted after the successful completion of all three classes which is a total of 6 consecutive workdays for a new employee. The dates for the courses are listed on the attached training calendar as well as the Training Tracker website. If the new employee uses Medipac instead of Registration Workstation, please contact the Revenue Integrity Specialist Team to ensure that the appropriate training schedule is achieved for the employee.

THe GUIDE TO PATieNT ACCESS EDUCATION

The following courses are offered by the RIST Team:

Pathways Healthcare Scheduling (PHS)

Revenue Cycle Management (RCM)

Revenue Cycle Management Financial Aspects of Healthcare

Pathways Healthcare Scheduling (PHS) is a comprehensive scheduling system designed to meet the appointment scheduling needs of UAMS by helping access staff efficiently schedule patient appointments and other required resources.  The system allows users to manage appointments with the advantage of Windows functionality such as: toolbars, menu bars, tabs, right mouse button functionality, and drag-and-drop scheduling.  Pathways Healthcare Scheduling can recognize schedule conflicts and available times using color coding, and access information using tabbed windows.  This program will accommodate patients, optimize resources, and speed work flow throughout our facility.

Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) is a comprehensive education program for patient access and claims management staff at UAMS. The classes are facilitated by the Revenue Integrity Specialist Team (RIST) and mandatory for all patient access personnel.

RCM Financial Aspects (or “RCM Day 4”) is designed for Patient Access personnel whose duties include insurance verification,  pre-certification/preauthorization, and/or financial counseling. RCM Days 1-3 is a prerequisite. This course will be offered once a quarter on a Friday.

Training dates and times are now available for for all access personnel that perform registration and/or scheduling functions.  You may register at https://secure.uams.edu/TrainingTracker/frmEnrollInClass.aspx.  For more information about  or questions regarding training, please contact RIST at 686-5102 or revenueintegrityspecialist-admissions@uams.edu

We look forward to working with you!

August 2008

Mina Viscardi-Johnson

Please join us in congratulating our August 2008 STAR Award recipient, Mina Viscardi-Johnson of Family and Preventive Medicine. She joined the UAMS family nearly 10 years ago and diligently serves as the Clinical Services Manager. Mina was nominated by several individuals for her outstanding work ethic and loyalty to our organization. Paula M. White, Family Medicine Administrator, had this to share about her, “Mina has held several key departmental roles. Concurrently, she was the departmental HR Manager, Grants Manager, Business Officer, Administrative Staff Supervisor, and SEHS/POEM Clinic Manager. Because she has proven herself time and again in such key roles, I promoted her to the FMC Clinic Manager in April. She has already improved medical records processes, issues in registration, pre-registration, POS collections, scheduling, and referrals.” FGP Revenue Manager, Paula Welch, also works closely with Family Medicine and had these warm words to add, “I feel that Mina is very deserving of the STAR award. I became the Revenue Manager for Family Medicine back in April of 2008 and can honestly say that she has impressed me from day one. She is always receptive to new ideas and willing to change for the better of the department. Mina wears many hats here at Family Medicine and in her own unique way seems to make each one fit right.” Congratulations Mina for being our shining star for the month!
