Consumer Education
The UAMS Rural Hospital Program, in partnership with the affiliate rural hospitals, provides valuable, convenient, and affordable programs for people from all walks of life who want to learn more about living with, improving, or avoiding various health conditions. This program informs people about risks, disease prevention and how to protect their health. The partnership provides a wide variety of programs on wellness and health promotion, and focuses on personal and professional growth and stress management. Other programs address problems, concerns, and coping skills involved when a person has a health problem or chronic disease.
Health care professionals who are specialists in the topics presented are available to answer questions from individuals in attendance regarding their particular concerns. Health education for consumers was offered over compressed video to over 3,430 people in 2000-2001. Support groups for individuals with chronic diseases are offered bi-monthly throughout the state.
