AT&T Honors Upton with $250,000 for UAMS Nanomedicine- AT&T Arkansas
honored outgoing board member, Patti Upton, with a
significant boost to the nanomedicine research program
in the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the
University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

Student Research Day
- the
inaugural UAMS campus-wide Student Research Day held on
April 1, 2011 in the Bruce Commons of the College of
Public Health and the 1st and 2nd floors of the I. Dodd
Wilson Education building was a great success with
research abstracts submitted by 123 graduate students,
medical students, post docs, and house staff.

Statewide Nanotechnology & Health Meeting - Biomedical, basic science,
and engineering researchers from across Arkansas came
together January 6-9, 2010 at Winthrop Rockefeller
Institute Petit Jean conference center to discuss
clinical needs, cutting edge treatment options, and
potential nanotechnology options for improving the
health of Arkansans.

Jean McSweeney, Ph.D., R.N. Receives Two National Honors - Nominated by the
Director of the National Institute of Nursing Research,
Dr. McSweeney was invited to serve on theNIH
Council of Councils
beginning Nov. 1, 2009. She was also recently honored by
the American Heart Association with the Katharine A.
Lambright Award for Cardiovascular Nursing. On the Council of Councils, Dr. McSweeney's task will include
analysis of NIH priorities, policies, and activities of
the Division of Program Coordination, Planning and
Strategic Initiatives as well as recommendations on
research proposals funded through the NIH Director's
Common Fund.
