Acute Occupational Therapy
The Acute Occupational Therapy Program provides services to inpatients and recuperative care patients. It employs a variety of modalities and procedures to restore patients to their maximum functional potential. Specialties include manual lymphedema massage and low vision rehabilitation.
Our licensed occupational therapists have additional credentials, including Neurodevelopmental Therapy (NDT) Certification and Myofascial Release techniques.
Consultation, evaluation, and treatment are available to patients who have, or who are at risk for, dysfunction in occupational performance or daily functional activities.

Acute Occupational Therapy Services
Acute Occupational Therapy serves a vital role at UAMS and works closely with various other health disciplines on campus to provide a complete health plan for restoration of the patient to maximum health and functional potential. Modalities and services include the following:
- Activities of daily living training
- Perceptual motor training
- Gross and fine motor coordination exercises
- Upper extremity functional and endurance activities
- Activities of daily living transfer training
- Range of motion and strengthening exercises
- Joint mobilization
- Hypertrophic scarring management
- Facilitation of development skills (including oral motor)
- Splinting of upper and lower extremities
- Continuous passive motion units for the upper extremity
- Compression garment measurement
- Vasopneumatic pressure pump
- Paraffin bath
- Contrast bath
- Functional neuromuscular electrical stimulation
- TENS
- Fluidotherapy
- Evaluation of range of motion, strength, sensation, perceptual motor skills, and work capacity to assist with diagnosis
- Low vision therapy
- Complex lymphedema treatment
- ENT - head/neck activities
- Burn therapy
