Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy of
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
Introduction
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that develops
in persons who have experienced emotional or physical stress that would
be extremely traumatic for most individuals. Combat experience is
one example. Such individuals can re-experience their trauma
through dreams or waking thoughts and have a variety of other emotional
and cognitive symptoms. Recently, neuroimaging studies have tried
to identify possible brain deficits for individuals with PTSD, with
particular interest in the hippocampus, a region of the brain associated
with short-term memory.
