Nuclear Medicine Research     PET-CT Scan Research     PET-CT Scan Equipment      Faculty     Nuclear Medicine Program Information

Residents will have many opportunities to participate in cutting-edge research during their training. At this time, we are doing clinical research investigating the use of FDG (fluorodeoxyglucose) PET-CT scanning in multiple myeloma and related plasma cell dyscrasias. We also have a pilot grant using PET-CT in patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer. We are evaluating dual-time point FDG PET in lung cancer to see if this can differentiate between cancer and previous infection, such as previous histoplasmosis, a very common fungal infection in Arkansas. We are also doing research in early detection of occult infection in the immune compromised patient and in the setting of orthopedic prostheses. Many papers and presentations, book chapters, etc., have come from the faculty as shown below.
