UAMS Radiology residents spend 6-8 months of their 4-year residency on
Pediatric Radiology rotations at Arkansas Children's Hospital. All upper
level (2nd, 3rd, and 4th year) residents also provide on-call coverage at
Arkansas Children's Hospital, providing continuing experience with Pediatric
Radiology throughout the residency.
Arkansas Children’s Hospital is a 237-bed free-standing children’s hospital
located approximately 2 miles from the UAMS and VA hospitals. The ACH
Radiology Department is staffed by 11 pediatric radiologists who are all UAMS
faculty members. They provide consultation, diagnostic, and interventional
radiology services in all aspects of Pediatric Radiology. Each staff member
has subspecialty interests and expertise. These include: interventional
radiology, cardiac MRI/CT, bone densitometry, and neuroradiology, as well as
the more traditional areas of pediatric radiology (GI, GU, US, CT, MR, NM and
plain films). Several of the faculty have served in leadership positions on
the national level.
The ACH Radiology Department is equipped with state-of-the-art technology,
including a dedicated interventional suite, 2 multidetector CT scanners, and
2 MR scanners, with more planned in the near future. The department has
recently become “filmless” after installation of a state-of-the-art PACS
system throughout the hospital and clinics. During rotations at ACH,
residents experience one-on-one teaching and progressive development of
technical skills in a friendly, low-key, nurturing atmosphere.
