Teaching Conferences
Our residents are considered to be scholars and their course of study includes daily Teaching Conferences with both didactic and case discussions. There are two, hour-long diagnostic radiology teaching conferences each day, one at 7 A.M. and another at 1:00 P.M. Most conferences are given by faculty radiologists, sometimes with the assistance of a resident. All residents are expected to, and do, attend teaching conferences.

Grand Rounds and Visiting Professors
In addition to Radiology Grand Rounds and Visiting Professor lectures, many subspecialty and interdepartmental conferences afford opportunities for resident participation. Each resident gives a Radiology Grand Rounds presentation during the third year.

Journal/Research Club
Journal/Research Club, held bi-monthly and attended by faculty and residents, provides residents with opportunities to review appropriate, recent radiology literature and to critically analyze the articles chosen.

Practice-Based Management
Practice-Based Management Conferences are held monthly to evaluate and improve imaging services and to make appropriate teaching points. Residents research systems problems and present this information to the staff.

Other Courses
All UAMS residents complete 3 web-based courses: Ethics; Medical-Legal Issues; and Patient Safety. These courses provide part of the essential information for residents to achieve competencies of professionalism, patient care, interpersonal and communication skills and system-based practice. Residents have the entire time of the residency to complete the courses. Other elements of the core curriculum include HIPAA training and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Armed Forces Institute of Pathology
Because the department values radiologic-pathologic correlation as a learning tool, all residents attend a four-week course in Diagnostic Radiology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) in Washington, D.C.
