Menu for More Information

Residents take call and thus gain experience as the primary radiological consultant to house staff officers from other services. Call responsibilities begin in the fall of the first year. A first-year resident and a more senior resident take overnight call as a team. Another senior resident also takes short call in house until approximately 11 P.M. and is then the backup resident from home. All three call residents receive the post-call day off. For first-year residents, the call frequency averages about once every sixth night. Overnight call frequency for second year residents is three times per month, and third and fourth year residents average two calls per month. Faculty are present in the department until 10 P.M. and available from home via beeper or tele-radiology for consultation on problem cases.
