Susan Rose and Dr. FerrisHello! I hope you found the answers to most of your questions about the diagnostic radiology residency program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) on our website. This program is based in the Department of Radiology in the UAMS College of Medicine where excellent training in the field of radiology has been provided since 1906.

We provide diagnostic services at the UAMS Medical Center, the Central Arkansas VA, and Arkansas Children’s Hospital, as well as various remote locations served by satellite programs. We often “make the news” by developing new techniques, installing new equipment, and keeping the state of Arkansas at the highest level of achievement in the South.

The department has more than 40 faculty members with expertise in all of the sub-specialty areas of radiology. Many of our faculty were previous residents in our program and have remained at UAMS to teach future radiologists and are internationally- and nationally-known radiologists. Most importantly, they stimulate research interests and create a stable learning environment for our residents.

Speaking of stability, Dr. Ferris has been our chairman since 1977! At least 3 of his former trainees are now radiology department chairs. A past president of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), Dr. Ferris has also received the Gold Medal Award, the highest honor given by the RSNA.

Our residents pride themselves on working together as a team. They are friendly, helpful, and always an asset to our department. Many of them present papers and exhibits at the RSNA meeting, so you may have a chance to meet them there.

We feel we offer a great place to work, learn, and enjoy life. The state of Arkansas offers plenty of places to go and things to see when you are not working as a resident, so please check out the Arkansas and Little Rock links.

If you have any questions that are not answered to your satisfaction on this website or from the materials available through ERAS, please contact me by telephone or email.

Thank you for your interest.

We look forward to receiving your application.
