The Neuroradiology Division offers a one-year fellowship that is fully
accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
(ACGME). Fellows participate in all activities of the section,
including active supervision of the clinical services and full participation
in specific neuroradiology conferences and combined specialty conferences
with clinical neuroscience departments. Involvement in research
projects for interested fellows is available. Rotations during the
fellowship include interventional neuroradiology and pediatric
neuroradiology. There are seven full-time neuroradiologist faculty.
Most are fellowship-trained and hold a subspecialty certificate of added
qualification in neuroradiology. Two full-time faculty practice
pediatric neuroradiology. The training program requires rotations
through 3 affiliated hospitals: UAMS Medical Center, John H. McClellan
Veterans Administration Hospital, and Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
State-of-the-art equipment, including six 1.5 T magnets, six helical CT
scanners, and four angiography suites, is available in all three hospitals
with a biplane angiography suite primarily dedicated to neurointerventional
work. Neurointerventional cases include both neurovascular and spine
interventions. Given the scope of neuroradiology, additional training
beyond this year may be desired. Trainees successfully completing a
second year of this program are eligible for senior membership in the
American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR).
