The Body/Musculoskeletal MRI Fellowship is a dedicated one-year program for
two fellows. Fellows gain experience in all aspects of MRI and participate
in all activities of the section, including active supervision of clinical
services and full participation in conferences. Fellows actively participate
in daily protocols, monitor studies, provide appropriate diagnoses,
participate in consultations to referring clinical services, and teach
residents. At the end of the year, the fellows will have a thorough
understanding of basic and advanced principles of MRI and will be prepared
for either academic or private practice.
In addition to daily case review, a weekly MRI interesting-case conference,
weekly MRI journal club, and monthly dedicated cardiac MRI conference add to
the fellows' education. The fellowship also provides ample time and
opportunity for active ongoing research related to MRI. The fellows review
both Body MRI and Musculoskeletal MRI on a daily basis. The aim of the
fellowship is to give a comprehensive training in Musculoskeletal (MSK),
Body, and Cardiac imaging. In this regard, the fellows also review MSK CT
scans as well as perform and review MRI arthrograms and cardiac and
coronary CTA. One or two months of neuro-radiology can be incorporated if
desired.
The faculty includes 5 full-time MRI radiologists, a cardiologist
specialized in cardiac MRI, and a physicist. The training program is
conducted at the UAMS Medical Center and the John H. McClellan Veterans
Administration Hospital. Images from one 3-tesla, five 1.5-tesla, three
1-tesla, one 0.5-tesla, and one open MR scanners are sent to our PACS system
for filmless interpretation. These include Siemens, Philips and GE MRI
units.
Both Body Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) fellowship positions have been filled through July 2009.
The fellowship overview page on the radiology website lists additional
benefits common to all fellowship programs. If you have any questions that
are not answered to your satisfaction on this website or would like to apply
to the program, please contact our program coordinator, Jan McKee.
