PURPOSE

The UAMS Pre-Matriculation Program is intended to give incoming freshman medical students a "jump start" on medical school. The program consists of these primary goals:
  1. To enhance a student's knowledge of first semestercourses through daily classes and laboratories. Students will be provided with pre-course materials in the medical school curriculum.
  2. Students will devote a portion of each week to development of effective study/learning skills. Focus areas will include acquiring skills for learning, time management and test-taking which are essential for academic success in a medical curriculum.
  3. Students will be involved in academic acclimation. This will range from obtaining their books to a computer workshop and clinical field trips. In addition, the students will meet informally with College of Medicine Dean's Office Administrators.
  4. Students will be involved in social acclimation, through interactions with faculty, upperclassmen, staff and getting to know their fellow classmates.

PARTICIPANTS

Space is available for up to 50 entering freshmen in the UAMS College of Medicine. Although enrollment in the program is voluntary and no course credit will be given, each participant will be required to actively engage in all activities and to complete all assignments in order to successfully complete the entire three-week course.
