Residency Program
Research
Explore Research Opportunities
Opportunities exist for residents to become involved in basic and/or clinical
research and to train with one of the dozens of Pediatrics' faculty who
are engaged in research through the Arkansas Children's Hospital Research
Institute (ACHRI). Making clinical research a part of the daily practice of
pediatrics is a primary goal of the Residency Program. In pursuit of this goal,
there are significant opportunities for residents to participate in ongoing
clinical epidemiology and outcome assessment research, in addition to the basic
research conducted in each of the subspecialties.
There are many opportunities to participate in research ranging from
molecular biology to outcome assessments. Monthly research conferences are held
to educate residents in basic research skills. Although not a specific
requirement, residents may choose to engage in research and are assigned a
faculty mentor to help them complete a research project. Department funds are
available for resident-led research and each resident who chooses to complete a
research project is encouraged to present findings at regional and national
meetings.
Each resident makes a decision about active involvement in research as a
resident. No matter what the decision, experienced faculty researchers are
available at UAMS and ACH to provide residents with individual learning
opportunities.
