 Pharmacology and Toxicology

Pediatric Pharmacology and Toxicology provides individualized drug therapy and treatment regimens. Twenty-four hour clinical services offered by Pharmacology and Toxicology include:

  • An inpatient service that cares for children admitted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital with poisoning or overdoses

  • A drug monitoring service that assists inpatient and outpatient clinical services with drug selection, dosing, and monitoring for therapeutic and toxic effects

  • A nationwide consultation service for physicians with pharmacologic or toxicologic questions

The Pediatric Pharmacology Research Unit (PPRU) is one of 13 NIH-funded centers in the nation to investigate drug dosing information for children. Additional research interests in Pharmacology and Toxicology include improving pediatric drug labeling, acetaminophen hepatitis, and delayed hypersensitivity reactions.
