The Critical Care section at UAMS/ACH has a mission to provide
state-of-the-art pediatric critical care through a team of specialty-trained
medical professionals. The Donald W. Reynolds Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
(PICU) is the only full service critical care facility in Arkansas for
children. The Critical Care physician teams constitute the only board
certified pediatric critical care physicians in Arkansas. A team of
physicians, specialty nurses, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, child
life specialists, and social workers care for more than 1200 children each
year. Specialists also advise the medical team for Angel One, the medical
helicopter transport service for critically ill infants and children
throughout Arkansas and the region.
An active fellowship program trains physicians in this subspecialty.
Faculty in Critical Care are nationally and internationally renowned in
their specialty areas and serve as leaders for key professional groups
involved in caring for critically ill children.
