The Center for Applied Research and Evaluation (CARE) seeks to improve
the health of children in Arkansas and the nation through high quality
research in child health services, child health and development, and child
health nutrition. Research results at CARE have affected child health
policies in Arkansas and throughout the country.
CARE is the only facility in a Department of Pediatrics in the region
offering multi-disciplinary, applied research that focuses on children,
their families, and communities.
Interactive disciplines include:
Research is conducted in three major areas:

Health Services Research
identifies cost-effective practices that result in improved health
outcomes for children.

Child Health and Development
examines low birth weight medically vulnerable children in longitudinal
research and offers care for children with growth, nutrition, and
development problems.

Nutrition Research conducts
health, behavior, and nutrition studies in relation to child health and
development and family functioning, including the effects of welfare
reform on the nutritional status of children, and the effects of
interventions on these conditions.
