Research Interests

Dr. Aitken is a general pediatrician with research interests in primary prevention of injury, assessment of health status and outcomes following injury, and improvement of rehabilitation care for injured and special needs children. She has received funding for her projects from the Emergency Medical Services for Children Program of MCHB and other agencies and is the recipient of a Robert Wood Johnson Generalist Physician Scholar award to pursue her research program evaluating measures of health related quality of life for injured children. A large research project evaluating the impact of a family support and education program for hospitalized trauma patients is currently under way. Community-based child passenger safety initiatives are also a major activity for Dr. Aitken, both as principal investigator of the Injury Free Coalition for Kids at Arkansas Children’s Hospital and medical director of a statewide Child Passenger Safety Education program.
