Prenatal  Classes

Pre-registration for classes is REQUIRED. You may register online through this web site or by calling (501) 686-8084. Space is limited, so please register early. Last minute registrations will only be accepted if space permits. Breastfeeding
In this class, participants learn the advantages of breastfeeding and the proper techniques for initiating breastfeeding, holding a baby while breastfeeding, pumping the breasts for milk, and storing breast milk
This class meets once a month for two hours with a course fee of $10.


Location:  8th Floor, Hospital

Class is Held the 3rd Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Labor and Delivery Unit Tours
This tour gives expectant parents a tour of the hospital's state of the art labor and delivery unit.   You will see the wonderful birthing suites and your guide will provide information about all of the options at UAMS Medical Center. 

Location:  Meet at the 8th Floor Information Desk, Hospital

Tour is Held the 4th Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m.

Preparing for Birth
This class helps prepare expectant parents for the events that will occur during labor and delivery.  The course covers the definition of labor; the signs and symptoms of labor; coping with the pain of labor and the physical and emotional changes associated with early, active and transition labor; and the birth of the baby.  Relaxation and breathing techniques are introduced during class.  Participants will also take a tour of the labor and delivery unit at UAMS.  Teaching booklets and product samples are included with the course fee of $30 (half-day short course).  

Location:  8th Floor, Hospital

Class is Held the 4th Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 

Relaxation During Labor & Delivery
This class will provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the relaxation and comfort measures available during labor.  These include breathing techniques, massage, relaxation exercises, visualization and many more.  Participants will have the opportunity to practice these techniques during class. This class is offered every other month for two hours with a course fee of $10. 

Location:  8th Floor, Hospital

Class is Held the 1st Thursday of each month (except for June 3, 2008 class, which will be held on a Tuesday) from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Sibling Class
This birthday party-style course—complete with refreshments and party favors—encourages children to celebrate the upcoming births of their brothers and sisters. During the class, instructors use baby dolls to teach children how to hold, diaper and use a blanket with the new baby.  Participants will also take a tour of the UAMS labor and delivery unit. This class is offered every other month with a course fee of $10.

Location:  Ward Tower, Room 1E/34

Class is Held the 3rd Wednesday of every other month from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

"Baby On Board" Class Package
If you are registering for all of the prenatal and newborn care classes, you will receive a discounted registration price of $60.  That's a savings of $10 (or $20 if Sibling Class is included)! Classes included in the package are:
