Description: The
University
of
Arkansas
for Medical
Sciences offers a two-year fellowship in Dermatopathology.
The service interprets
over 20,000 skin biopsies per year, including cases from the
University
Hospital
,
Veterans
Administration Hospital,
Arkansas
Children's Hospital and outside consultation cases from around the
country. The Dermatopathology unit consists of
three full-time board certified Dermatopathologists.
The service is closely coordinated with the Department of Dermatology
and fellows participate in Dermatology clinics and conferences. The
Dermatopathology service performs a wide range of
special stains, immunohistochemical stains, and molecular techniques.
Direct immunofluorescence and transmission and
scanning electron microscopy are also performed on our service.
The second year of the training program is largely
elective and the fellow is expected to undertake a large research
project.
The dermatopathology fellow participates in bi-weekly interdepartmental
melanoma conference, weekly Dermatology Grand Rounds, weekly interesting
case presentation to the dermatology trainees, Monthly dermatopathology
journal club and QA meeting and monthly Dermatology Journal Club with the
community dermatologists.
Additionally, the trainee is expected to have case
presentations and original research work prepared to present at the American
Society of Dermatopathology annual meeting, and other national conferences
as appropriate.
Requirements: Applicants should be board eligible in AP,
AP/CP or Dermatology. Application deadline is November 1.
Stipend: $47,000 per year
