UAMS student parking and transportation fee

FAQ Shuttle Info Parking Options

The Board of Trustees for the University of Arkansas approved a student parking and transportation fee for UAMS students beginning with the Fall semester 2013. These fees ($78 each for the Fall and Spring semesters; $39 for the Summer term) will help offset rising costs of parking lot maintenance, security, and shuttle bus services.

At almost every urban university and/or academic medical center, students pay fees for parking, transportation and security. At UAMS, parking costs have been paid by employees, patients, and visitors; and with institutional funds.

All students will be charged these fees except for 100% online students. For the purposes of the parking/transportation fee, students in 100% online programs are exempt, which is defined as students in programs where 100% of the program’s instruction and instruction-related activities (advising, mentoring, clinical rotations/experiential exercises, taking examinations and administrative activities) occur without coming to a UAMS facility. UAMS facilities include AHECS and NW Campus.

Students who already pay for a UAMS parking assignment will be charged the new fee with their tuition bill. However, they will receive an offsetting credit against their paid parking assignment. Offsetting credits applied to employee payroll deductions will be posted after all colleges have processed tuition fees. An announcement will be posted on the parking website when credits for payroll deductions have been started.

Students paying to park at the Residence Hall, will receive an offsetting credit at the time they receive their Residence Hall parking assignment.

Please forward any related questions to Parking@UAMS.edu.

Online Exemptions are allowed for programs that are designated 100% online and not on the basis of which courses a student has enrolled. That is, enrolling in a series of online courses does not qualify for an exemption of the fee.

FAQ

  • I am a student that attends classes off site; Mt Home, Hope, Fayetteville, Texarkana, etc. Does the Parking and Transportation Fee apply?
    • Yes, the Parking and Transportation fee applies to all UAMS facilities including distant sites. The only exemption is for students that are enrolled in a program that qualifies as a 100% on-line program.
  • I am a student and I live in the Residents Hall and pay for Residents Hall parking. Why do I have to pay the Parking and Transportation Fee?
    • When you visit the Parking Office to pay for your parking an offsetting credit will be applied to reduce your balance.
  • I am a student and an employee that currently pays for parking via payroll deduction and I was accessed the Parking and Transportation fee. When I receive my credit?
    • Once registration is closed Parking will receive a report detailing the current semester’s enrollment. Parking will reduce your payroll deduction until the credit is used. Additional information will be published on our website.
  • I am a student and an employee. I am currently on several waiting lists but do not have a parking assignment. Why am I paying a parking fee as a student to park where I can park for free as an employee?
    • It was agreed that the fee would apply to all students who attend classes. Our goal was to make it convenient for the students and to keep the cost low while being as fair as possible. A transportation fee included with student tuition was the best option for our campus. The fee will allow us to continue to provide not only parking availability and transportation but security on and around campus.
  • I am a student and I reside in one of the nearby neighborhoods and walk to campus each day. Why do I have to pay the Parking and Transportation Fee?
    • The Parking and Transportation fee allows us to continue to provide not only parking availability but also transportation and security on and around campus.
  • I am a student and attend classes on-line. Why do I have to pay the Parking and Transportation Fee?
    • The program must qualify as a 100% on-line program; which means not accessing a UAMS facility for any reason including registration, orientation, exams, or classes. UAMS Facilities includes distant sites, including but not limited to; NW Arkansas and AHEC’s.

Remember

Employees and students that are not on campus as a patient should park in designated areas only. This process supports our mission of creating comfort, hope, and healing for patients and families by assuring sufficient valued patient and visitor parking supply. Employees and students, if you are in a UAMS visitor area as a patient, please don't forget to call 526-PARK (526-7275) or click here to register your vehicle. This will assure that you or a family member driving a vehicle registered in an employees name do not receive a parking citation.

UAMS encourages our Students and Employees to be “good neighbors” to the surrounding neighborhood and local businesses. Students and Employees should NOT park on side streets off campus. Please note that the ADH ONLY marked spaces to the north of the War Memorial Stadium lot are reserved for the Arkansas Department of Health.
Students and Employees should park only in designated areas served by the UAMS Shuttle, including War Memorial Stadium and the Ray Winder Lot. You can view maps of the parking areas and shuttle stops here.
