OzarkNet is a practice based research network organized by the the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, to conduct research in primary care practices throughout the state.

The network was developed by Geoffrey Goldsmith, MD, MPH, who serves as the Director. The network’s mission is to improve patient care in family medicine settings through practice based research. Network goals include translating clinical research into family practice settings and assisting family practice sites in carrying out clinical studies.

Over 70 primary care physicians in 18 counties are currently members of the network. The vast majority of clinics are those of private family physicians, while one is the Family Medical Center in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and six are Arkansas Area Health Education Centers.

Participating sites are able to work with cutting edge researchers from many specialties at UAMS, all focused on improving care in the family practice setting. The network eventually intends to have medical specialists, psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, nurses, public health practitioners, health educators and many other researchers working together with family physicians on projects designed to provide excellent quality care in family practice settings.
