                          Chairman's Introduction

The purpose of this web site is to provide you with information about our orthopaedic residency program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Graduates of this program are expected to develop a high level of clinical competency leading to orthopaedic certification.  We offer quality surgical and clinical experiences in the orthopaedic sciences with increasing levels of responsibility.  Our department also strives for research excellence to meet the challenges of the new millennium.  Arkansas provides a unique setting for physicians to continue their education and develop the essential skills of an orthopaedic surgeon.

On behalf of the faculty and our current residents, we invite you to explore this information about our program.  We hope it will allow you to become more familiar with what we have to offer as a training program.  The measure of any program is the quality of its final product--its graduates.  The strength of our program derives from the balance we have achieved--an academic foundation, early and varied surgical experience in a stimulating training environment, and the assistance of a superb faculty.

Sincerely,

Richard Nicholas, M.D.
