     The UAMS Center for Hip and Knee Surgery offers state-of-the-art comprehensive care that includes prevention, early diagnosis, and modern treatment of hip and knee problems. Richard Evans, M.D., director of the Center for Hip and Knee Surgery, is internationally recognized as an expert in the field of total joint replacements and is bringing to UAMS expertise in minimally invasive total joint replacement and revision joint replacement. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (AAOS).

Dr. Evans is a Fellow of the AAOS, the Chairman-elect of the Patient Safety Committee of the AAOS, a founding member of the Musculoskeletal Infection Society, an appointed member of the task force to develop the AAOS Guidelines on Peri-prosthetic Infections of the Hip and Knee, and is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).

Dr. Evans was trained by and has assumed the clinical service and surgery duties performed by the late Chairman Dr. Carl Nelson who was the only member of both the Hip Society and the Knee Society in Arkansas.

Dr. Evans treats the following conditions:

  • Hip and knee pain problems
  • Any disease that affects the hip or knee
  • Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis, congenital disease and others
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) for partial and total joint replacement
  • Revision joint replacement
  • Musculoskeletal and joint infection
  • Work-related and traumatic joint injuries

The Center for Hip and Knee Surgery is a team of health care professionals which includes multiple specialty physicians and surgeons whom work closely with UAMS Medical Center's physical and occupational therapists and the Institute on Aging to provide the best care possible and ensure a full and rapid recovery following surgery.
