     UAMS Medical Center employs some of the nation's most distinguished medical professionals. Robert Lumsden II, MD, FACS, Director of the Center for Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, is no exception. A faculty member of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Dr. Lumsden is fellowship trained in Hand Surgery and is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Association of Hand Surgeons. He is active in research, education and patient care. Dr. Lumsden employs an interdisciplinary approach, working closely with UAMS Medical Center's plastic surgeons, occupational therapists and other specialists and is referred complex problems from all over Arkansas and neighboring States. Patients of the Center for Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery can rest assured that their hands are in capable ones.

Surgeons and Therapists Working Hand in Hand

    The specialists at the Center for Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery regard therapy as an important step in the treatment of acute injuries and chronic problems alike, and they work closely with UAMS Medical Center's occupational therapists to ensure a full recovery following surgery.

     Some of the conditions treated are:

  • Arthritis and related diagnoses
  • work-related and other traumatic injuries
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • nerve disorders, injuries, and other nerve compression syndromes
  • cumulative trauma disorders (overuse syndrome)
  • congenital hand injuries and deformities
  • upper extremity pain problems
