The Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgery Fellowship program at UAMS provides a comprehensive foot and ankle surgical training program for physicians who have successfully completed an ACGME accredited Orthopaedic Surgery residency.  The program includes in-depth study, prevention, and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases, disorders, and sequelae of injuries to the foot and ankle by medical, physical and surgical methods.  The program includes both acute trauma as well as reconstruction; both adult and pediatric.  The fellow should learn excellence in complete foot and ankle surgical and non-surgical patient care.

This fellowship is part of the larger University of Arkansas Orthopaedic training program.  The UAMS Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgery fellow participates directly in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative management of patients as well as the educational experience of the program residents.  The fellow will participate in a schedule of lectures, grand rounds, journal clubs, anatomy sessions, indications conferences, and research conferences during the fellowship year.  Completion of a research project of publishable quality is expected of each fellow.

Fellows must be board-eligible or board-certified and must obtain an Arkansas medical license.  Fellowship duration is one year, from August 1 through July 31.  The stipend for 2008-2009 is $52,500.  Benefits are outlined on the UAMS Medical School webpage.  For more information contact the program director, Ruth Thomas, M.D.
