The mission of the
UAMS Office of Research Compliance is to review and report on compliance
in the conduct of human subject research overseen by the UAMS
Institutional Review Board. The UAMS ORC reviews studies and associated
documentation for compliance to appropriate federal and state
regulations, institutional policies and procedures, and accepted human
subject research practices. ORC provides compliance consultations for
the entire research community. ORC also may review the activities of
research oversight boards such as the UAMS Institutional Review Board (IRB)
and the Office of Research Support and Regulatory Affairs. Auditors
provide feedback to investigators, study staff, oversight staff/groups,
and the Vice Chancellors for Academic Affairs/Research Administration
and Institutional Compliance concerning compliance, study conduct, and
suggestions for remediation. Auditing also allows ORC staff to identify
areas where additional educational programs would benefit the research
community.
The ORC reports to the Vice Chancellor for
Institutional Compliance (VCIC). The authority for its activities is
derived from the VCIC’s charge to monitor and assure compliance in human
subject research.
