Responsible Conduct of Research Education Plan

The Responsible Conduct of Research training consists of both an online and a live component. The online component is the UAMS Responsible Conduct of Research course offered through CITI. The live component is the Advanced Research Ethics course, or another course of comparable content, which is offered by the Office of Research Compliance (ORC) and taught by a Research Faculty member. Each component is worth 4 contact hours, for a total of 8 hours credit.

This format will provide trainees with the opportunity for substantial face-to-face interactions with each other and with Research Faculty members, who will teach the live component of the training. Topics of discussion will include the following:

    1. research misconduct and policies for handling misconduct
    2. data acquisition, management, sharing and ownership
    3. responsible authorship and publication
    4. peer review
    5. mentor/mentee responsibilities and relationships
    6. conflicts of interest and commitment
    7. collaborative research
    8. policies regarding human subjects
    9. the scientist as a responsible member of society
    10. contemporary ethical issues in research
    11. the societal impacts of scientific research

This training must be completed at least once every four years.
