CRS Program Course Requirements

To become a Certified Research Specialist, you must complete 26 CRS contact hours, 20 of which are required courses, as follows:

 
  • UAMS Human Subject Protection training course through CITI (4 hours)
  • Essentials of Quality Human Subject Research (6 hours)*

OR

Three Essentials constituent courses (2 hours each)

    • ARIA Submission/ IRB Review**
    • Informed Consent
    • Record Keeping and Regulatory Binders
  • Advanced Research Ethics (4 hours)
  • Adverse Event Reporting (2 hours)***
  • Developing a Research Protocol (2 hours)
  • Writing Standard Operating Procedures (2 hours)

You may count courses offered by other programs toward your CRS hours, with the approval of the Research Education Manager, but they can account for no more than 6 of your total contact hours. 

* Replaces the Essentials of Quality Human Subject Research that was worth 8 contact hours of credit.

** Replaces Developing Case Reporting Forms

*** Replaces Validation of Processes and Procedures
