About the ORC

The following is a list of services offered by the Office of Research Compliance.  If you have questions please contact us at 526-6876.

 

Education

We currently offer several online courses.  For more information click on the Online Training link on the left.

  • Web-based program for human subject protection in research. There are two courses, one is for biomedical personal and the other is for researchers involved in behavioral and social sciences. Take these courses on line and the ORC will track and record the activity.

  • Web Based program for HIPAA Issues in Human Subject Research

  • Live Educational Forums for Investigators and Coordinators

  • One-on-one educational sessions as required

Regulatory Consultation

  • Provide guidance on research -related regulatory issues

  • Preparatory Study Reviews prior to FDA or NIH audits

  • Provide new information from federal regulatory agencies and others related to human subject research.

Human Research Quality Improvement Activities

  • Assistance with establishing study specific data safety monitoring plans

  • Assistance with establishing Department Level Quality Improvement Plans for research data and safety monitoring.

Reporting Requirements

An important area where the Office of Research Compliance activity is appropriate are those times when the Integrity of the Institution faces a potential or perceived threat through human subject research activities. The ORC is also obligated to report the following compliance problems to both institutional and regulatory agencies when they arise:

  • Research activity that results in harm to human subjects. 

  • Research misconduct or fraud 

  • Suspensions and terminations of HRAC approved research studies 

  • Serious or continuing noncompliance with HRAC policies and procedures

  • Serious or continuing noncompliance with Institutional policies and procedures
