The following benefits are a
valuable part of your total compensation package at the University of
Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Click

and enrollment deadlines. Generally, faculty and staff holding a 50%
appointment, working 20 hours or more per week in regular positions, are
eligible for benefits.
Medical
insurance You
may choose from two plans: Point of Service and Classic Managed
Care. Neither plan has pre-existing condition restrictions.
Each plan has four coverage levels: employee only, employee +
spouse, employee + child(ren), or family. UAMS pays at least 65% of
the total premium for full-time employees.
Dental
insurance
Dental coverage is available for individuals and their families.
Twice a year checkups and cleanings are covered in full. The plan
has a $50 deductible for other services and pays up to $1,500 annual
maximum benefit per person. UAMS pays half of the total premium
for full-time employees.
Retirement All
benefit-eligible employees must participate in a retirement plan.
University of Arkansas Optional Retirement Plan (UAORP)
UAORP is the primary, default plan. It is a defined
contribution plan, meaning benefits are based on contributions
by you and the University and the earnings on those
contributions. It is a combination
403(b) and 457(b) plan. UAMS contributes 5% for all eligible
employees and makes additional matching contributions up to 10%
if you personally contribute between 5 and 10%. You choose how
to invest your retirement funds through our two fund sponsors,
TIAA-CREF and Fidelity.
Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System (APERS)
In lieu of participating in the UAORP, employees can opt to
participate in APERS, a defined benefit “pension” plan. You
contribute 5% of your pay towards APERS and are vested after 5
years. Full retirement benefits are available after 28 years
of State service. APERS is an irrevocable choice you must make
within the first 30 days of your employment.
Retiree insurance
When
you retire from the University of Arkansas you may be eligible to continue your medical coverage, dental coverage and a
$10,000 life insurance policy.
Tax deferred
annuities Some
employees are not eligible for UAMS “matching” retirement
contributions. However, they are eligible to make personal
contributions to a TDA.

your annual salary, up to $50,000, in
personal term life insurance at no cost. You may purchase additional
coverage for yourself, your spouse, and children.

Death & Dismemberment insurance AD&D

available in multiples of $25,000, up to $300,000.
Long Term
Disability insurance LTD

work for more than 6 months due to serious illness or injury.
