"To support individuals with disabilities and families of children with
disabilities to fully and meaningfully participate in community life, effect
systems change, prevent disabilities and promote healthy lifestyles."
Formerly called the "University Affiliated Program," Partners for Inclusive
Communities (Partners) was created in 1988 as part of a nationwide system
created by federal legislation in 1963.Partners provides education, training, technical assistance, information,
and services to people with disabilities and their families, students and
professionals involved with disability related programs.Partners conducts research from federal funding received by the
Administration on Developmental Disabilities and other agencies.
Although
Partners specializes in developmental disabilities, it also addresses other
types of disabilities and health conditions including wellness and preventive
health programs. It collaborates with other organizations within the state
of Arkansas and other states to develop programs and projects to meet the needs
of individual and families on a community level. Many of the ideas implemented by Partners are generated by disability
group advocates, staff members, and other individuals and organizations.
The Affirmative
Action section congratulates Partners for Inclusive Communities for its dedication to
ensure that the needs of the disabled are met on campus, in the community, and
throughout the State of Arkansas.
