Welcome to Affirmative Action Programs

"This is the next and more profound stage of the battle for civil rights. We seek not just freedom but opportunity-not just legal equity but human ability-not just equality as a right and a theory, but equality as a fact and as a result".

Lyndon B. Johnson, June 4, 1965

Our Mission

The mission of the Affirmative Action section of the UAMS Office of Human Resources is to promote good faith efforts to recruit, employ and advance in employment qualified persons of color, women, persons with disabilities and covered veterans.  Our mission is accomplished by ensuring that UAMS fulfills its obligation as a federal contractor to comply with all applicable laws, orders and regulations, including  but not limited to the rules and procedures as set forth by the Department of Labor, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs.

Our Goals

*         Increase inclusiveness in the workplace thorough the application of affirmative action principles in the employment process.

*         Promote equal opportunity and equitable, non-discriminatory treatment of all campus community members in all aspects of employment and education through the assistance of development and implementation of effective complaint and investigative procedures and through ongoing monitoring of employment practices.

*         Ensure the UAMS community is free of illegal discrimination through education, training, and assistance in rapid response of complaints.

As of January, 2009
