UAMS Compensation Study
For some time, UAMS Has experienced considerable challenge in effectively managing the salaries of its non-classified, non-faculty employees. Some of the problems the UAMS Office of Human resources is reviewing include:
In order to address these issues, the UAMS Office of Human Resources, with authorization from Chancellor Wilson, is about to begin a compensation study of our non-classified, non-faculty positions.
We have contracted with Buck Consulting, Boston, MA and a leader in the field of higher education compensation management, to assist us in carrying out this study. The UAMS Office of Human Resources has been working with a group of senior level UAMS business officers (appointed as the institutional compensation committee) over the last year and a half to evaluate our salary management practices. Much of what we found, as issues, was included in the request for proposals to which Buck responded.
Over the next 12 to 18 months, the UAMS Office of Human Resources will be working with the compensation committee to administer the study.
Although there will be more information provided, (following this introductory communication, the basic stages of the study will include:
June 2008 Update Work is progressing on the Compensation Study. The job descriptions have been reviewed and salary data has been collected. The committee is now in the process of developing the recommended salary ranges for positions and an on-line tool to help in the departments in the area of compensation.
Committee Member Primary Team - work with the Buck Consultants on the overall project design, development and implement. Serve as the primary contact related to all decisions made on the project. Handle all the major project components and work direction.
Secondary Team - work with the Primary Team and Buck Consultants as support to the project. Serve as needed on project teams working on the implementation. Support the gathering of data or research for the project.
Advisors- work as a sounding board on decisions of design and development for the project. Support the communication and implementation of the project upon completion. Serve as liaison between their respective campus area and the primary project team.
