One of Mike’s primary areas of focus is working with Graduate
Medical Education assisting residency program directors to develop teaching
and evaluation methods necessary to meet accreditation requirements. He
serves on Graduate Medical Education Committee, sitting on the General
Competencies and Internal Review subcommittees.
Additionally, Mike serves on the College of Medicine
Basic Science Course Directors Committee and is an Advisor to the
Undergraduate Medical Education Competency Steering Committee. For the
College of Pharmacy, he assists with evaluation and assessment issues and is
a member of their Assessment Committee. Mike’s other duties include being
the evaluator for the UAMS Memory Research Center as well as the evaluator
for a FIPSE grant for the College of Pharmacy’s Nuclear Education On-line
program.
Teaching
His teaching activities include working with Pat
O’Sullivan on the GME residency education curriculum, E.A.S.E., which
develops the educational skills of Residency Program Director’s and Program
Coordinator’s across a broad range of topics related to accreditation
requirements. Mike also teaches in the
Teaching Scholars program, focusing
on how people learn and group learning methods, including Team Learning. He
also works with the Nutrition program in the College of Health Related
Professions assisting in the teaching of basic science concepts.
Scholarship
His research interests include the implementation of an
institutional 360° global evaluation for evaluating the General Competencies
of residents and faculty development of teaching skills.
