As education and program evaluator, Dr. Johnson serves
on a number of internally and externally funded initiatives across the UAMS
colleges of nursing, medicine, public health, and health related
professions. Drawing on twenty-two years of grant-funded research
experience as principal investigator or evaluator, she is prepared to assist
from preparation of a competitive proposal to filing of a final project
report. Her experience meeting funding agent and internal review board
expectations facilitates project implementation for grant teams and for
studies conducted by individual faculty.
Teaching
Dr. Johnson collaborates with faculty to implement
longitudinal and targeted studies of course outcomes as well as patient and
community education initiatives. She assists with development of
educational materials: posters, presentation slides, handouts, manuscripts
for publication, focus group guides, and accreditation documents. Dr.
Johnson provides small-group instruction for project teams related to study
design, data collection, analysis, and effective depiction of study outcomes
in narrative, tabular, and graphic formats. She provides input as a member
of the Center on Aging Education Committee and the College of Medicine
Curriculum Committee’s External Review Sub-committee.
Research
Dr. Johnson specializes in applying a mixed method
approach to the systematic evaluation of various medical education topics.
This typically targets students, faculty, and the program itself using
multiple sources of qualitative and quantitative data as well as an on-going
audit of processes implemented to accomplish project. Periodic status
reports with updates to a continuous improvement plan provide (1)
accurate and comprehensive documentation of progress toward project goals;
(2) a resource for data-driven decision-making, (3) outcome data for
presentations, publications, and reports for advisory boards regarding
project accomplishments, and (4) documentation that guidelines of any
accrediting and certifying bodies have been followed.
Scholarship
Dr. Johnson’s continuing
education activities are designed to maintain a foundation of knowledge in
the field of educational and program evaluation (ethics, best practices,
state-of-the-art examples) from which to provide quality service. Experience
reviewing medical education submissions contributes to the quality of
knowledge in health professions as well as Dr. Johnson’s awareness of
standards in the field.
