Janet L. Whitten, B.A.

Business Systems Manager

Janet joins the Office of Educational Development after 9 years with UAMS Media Services.  She graduated in 1995 from the University of Arkansas Little Rock with a Bachelor of Arts in Art.  Prior to that, she had 15 years of medical office management with a private physician, an outpatient dialysis center, and Baptist Medical Center.

She brings an odd mix to her position in OED, with her art talent and her financial/management background.  Janet likes to say she approaches management from the creative side of her brain as well as the analytical side.  She does not look at problems from the problem side, but from the solution side.  She enjoys challenges, learning new things, and helping people.  Her knowledge in SAP evolved from a “have to learn” situation and brought her back to her financial/analytical base.   She decided that she likes SAP, something few people are crazy enough to admit to on this campus.  “It’s not unlike working in a drawing or photo software program--there are many ways to get to the same point and I just use it as a tool.”

Janet has completed classes and work shops in web design, Front Page, Authorware, Photoshop, and Illustrator.  She attended UALR for the Photojournalism I class in the fall of 1999, concentrating on photography.  In 2001, she completed the program requirements of the Arkansas Certified Public Manager program and is designated as an Arkansas Governmental Manager.  As a member of the BioCommunications Association, she presented at two conferences; Maintaining Staff Morale: A Race Without a Finish Line? and A Healing Journey: A Race for the Cure resulting in a 22 piece group photo exhibit of the Arkansas Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.  She served on the House of Delegates at two annual meetings.  She hosted the exhibit, A Healing Journey: A Race for the Cure at the In the Pink kickoff and fundraiser. A Healing Journey: Race for the Cure won a Bronze Quill Award in 2000 in the Public Service Campaign division.  She was involved in the Guest House project with Dr. Hall and the organization incorporated as Parents and Friends of Children and Adults.
