As coordinator of Web-based Learning in OED, Dr. Smith provides
planning and instructional design services as well as coordinates faculty
development activities for web-based learning at UAMS. She chairs the WebCT
Administrative Support Committee to coordinate web-based learning support
services provided by OED and Academic Computing. Dr. Smith also serves on
the Web-based Learning Steering Committee and
Teaching and Technology
Committee. Dr. Smith works with the Graduate Medical Education program to
develop the Annual Survey, Internal Review of Resident Programs, and three
web-based resident courses.
Teaching
Dr. Smith conducts professional development workshops on
web-based learning and WebCT topics. She recently presented papers at both
regional and international conferences. Dr. Smith has made over 80
presentations on web-based learning topics. She has been teaching web-based
courses for over six years. She provides consultation services and training
sessions for the Southern Gerontological Nursing Certification Program, the
Arkansas Bioterrorism Consortium, and the
Mid America Genetic Education
Consortium.
Scholarship
Dr. Smith’s recent scholarship work involves designing course
content for effective web-based learning: chunking of course materials into
absorbable pieces, creating interactive activities and discussion questions,
presenting course content for “just in time” learning, and effectively
addressing multiple learning styles with course content.
