Service & Background
Lisa Ferris brings 25+ years of teaching and instructional design experience to her role of Assistant Professor - Instructional Design in the Office of Educational Development. She provides instructional design and learning technology support for UAMS staff and faculty.
Prior to joining UAMS, she was an instructional design and eLearning specialist with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture. She has also held instructional design, learning technology, and management positions with Heifer International, ALLTEL Corporate, ALLTEL Information Systems, Multimedia Learning, and Hughes Training Systems.
Her career as an educator began as a Peace Corps volunteer, teaching English as a Foreign Language in Upper Volta, West Africa. Since earning M.S. (Radio & TV) and Ed.S. in Instructional Systems Technology degrees from Indiana University, she has focused her interest on developing computer-based training programs for a wide variety of clients and industries. Courses include bloodborne pathogens training for healthcare workers, employee orientation and strategic planning training for global humanitarian organizations, computer software and hardware training, laser robotics for the automotive industry, effective online course design, horticulture basics and organizing 4-H clubs for county extension agents which won the national Silver Award for educational courses from the Association for Communications Excellence. She has served for several years as a Master Judge for the Brandon Hall Research eLearning Awards. In addition to computer-based training, she has designed classroom training on coaching employee performance, facilitation skills for application trainers, new employee orientation, and training skills. Her advocacy of sharing training resources across borders led her to help start the non-profit global training consortium called LINGOs (Learning for International Non-governmental Organizations).
As a project manager, learning technologist, and web designer, she has implemented multiple support websites and learning management platforms. She brings expertise in many web and eLearning tools including Articulate Studio, Wordpress, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Advanced PowerPoint, and Camtasia.
