Dr. Vuk joined The Office of Educational Development at UAMS on September 1, 2009. She received a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Mississippi State University that provided her with knowledge in statistics, research design, program evaluation, measurement, psychometrics, students' learning, and teaching. She obtained her MD from the University of Zagreb Medical School in Croatia in 1982 and worked as a family physician in Croatia for three years. In 1989, she completed residency training in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Zagreb and became board certified in Croatia. She has lived in the U.S. since 1991.

In the U. S. A., Dr. Vuk's career took on a different path. Before joining OED, Dr. Vuk taught numerous educational psychology courses at Mississippi State University. She received her Master's Degree in counseling from Mississippi State University in 1999 and worked with clients and college students who suffered from a variety of mental health problems.

In her work at UAMS, Dr. Vuk has the opportunity to combine these diverse skills in a broad range of projects.

Service

Dr. Vuk serves as an evaluator of the Arkansas Aging Initiative (AAI) project, the Schmieding Caregiver Training grant, the Arkansas Geriatric Educational Center (AGEC) grant, and the Pre-Doctoral Training Family Medicine grant. Dr. Vuk's strength in evaluation of educational and health programs stems from the combination of her two backgrounds in medicine and educational psychology. She works with faculty on the development of evaluation and research designs, surveys, questionnaires, interviews, and data analyses. She also serves on the Assessment Committee of the College of Pharmacy and provides consultation on program evaluations to the College of Nursing.

Teaching

Dr. Vuk teaches in the Genetic Counseling master's program at the College of Health Related Professions. She presents at students' Research Principles workshops, assists students with research design and statistical analyses of their projects, and serves on students' thesis committees. Dr. Vuk's main philosophy in teaching is emphasis on students' critical thinking, problem solving, collaborative learning, and intrinsic motivation. Dr. Vuk presented at the Teaching Scholars program in 2009/10 and the College of Pharmacy faculty development workshop in June 2010.

Scholarship

Dr. Vuk's research and scholarly interest has focused on college students' behavior on self-tailored tests in relation to their metacognitive abilities, self-efficacy, and test anxiety. Her future goal is to conduct similar research at UAMS with the purpose of improving assessment, teaching, and student learning. She presented papers and posters at conferences at the regional, national, and international levels.
