The OED Advisory Committee has agreed to two specific
policies related to the provision of academic support services.
1. Service Priorities*
Based upon the mission of UAMS and the Office of
Educational Development, the priorities of service are as follows.
Projects directly related to the teaching, learning, and evaluation of
students in the five health professions colleges and graduate school.
Projects related to the teaching and learning of residents in the
College of Medicine and postgraduate students in the College of Pharmacy.
Projects funded externally that relate to:
1.
Health professions education in general
2.
Patient education
3.
Consumer education
Other
2. Suggested Guidelines and Further Clarification**
OED primarily provides consultation services in the design and
implementation of instructional programs and educational evaluation. To that
end it can provide some support for the production or implementation of
prototype instructional programs or the evaluation of programs. It is not
staffed to provide “free” production services or ongoing evaluation services
that require significant resources.
OED will contract for a fee with units within UAMS to provide needed
production and ongoing evaluation support services. Recent examples of such
contracts are:
Production of web-based modules for Dept. of Geriatrics
Production of web-based modules for GME curriculum
Curriculum development and evaluation of GME programs
OED services provided for externally-funded projects are done so under a
contract between OED (with the Director’s approval) and the primary
investigator or project director.
