PROCEDURE FOR USE OF THE Saf-T Holder Device with Female
Luer Adapter
PURPOSE: The
Saf-T Holder device can be is a vacuum tube holder that
can be attached to a male Luer connector of a syringe of
blood to transfer the blood into the tube without using
a needle
EQUIPMENT:
-
Safety-T Holder
device
-
Blood tubes,
syringes and safety equipment per hospital policy
and procedure.
NURSING ACTION:
Receive/draw blood per hospital policy and procedure and
transfer blood to tubes using needleless blood transfer
device.
PROCEDURE STEPS:

Perform syringe draw
according to hospital policy and procedure.

Attach male Luer
syringe to female Luer of holder firmly.

With holder collect
blood into the appropriate blood tubes (using order
per hospital policy).

Place the tube in
the holder and push over stopper. Allow sample to
transfer freely. Do not push sample into blood tube.

Dispose of the
holder and syringe as a unit into sharps container
