PROCEDURE FOR
ANOSCOPY
PURPOSE: To
aid in the visualization of the lower bowel
EQUIPMENT:
-
Anoscope
-
Disposable gloves
-
Fiberoptic light source
-
4X4's
-
Enema/fleets (*if
ordered)
-
Lubrication jelly
NURSING ACTION:
-
Explain
procedure to patient.
-
Instruct or assist to
administer fleets enema 15 to 30 minutes prior to procedure.
-
Provide
patient/family discharge instructions and follow-up care.
-
Inform of follow-up
appointment.
-
Document type of
procedure.
PROCEDURE STEPS:
-
Set up equipment on Mayo
stand.
-
Instruct patient to
remove clothing from waist down.
-
Position on left side on
exam table and cover with sheet.
-
Assist physician as
needed.
-
Assist patient with
hygiene as needed following procedure.
-
Assess for presence of
pain, bleeding or other adverse reaction.
