PROCEDURE FOR
INTRALESIONAL INJECTION
PURPOSE: To
promote anti-inflammatory response in a keloid or other lesion by injection of
steroid solution
EQUIPMENT:
-
Ligmajet
-
Steroid Intralesional
suspension
-
2 Alcohol swabs
-
Gloves
-
2 4X4 's, unsterile
-
3ml Syringes
-
20 gauge Needle
-
Dental 30 gauge needle
-
Dental Cartridge, empty
NURSING ACTION:
-
Explain
procedure to patient.
-
Medication will be
injected into the lesion. There will be some discomfort for a short
time.
-
Assess for allergy to
local anesthesia.
-
Baseline vital signs
and as indicated.
-
Document site of
lesion injected.
-
Asses tolerance to
procedure (pain/discomfort).
-
Give patient family
discharge instructions.
-
Observe for s/s of
infections: swelling, redness or drainage.
-
Give clinic phone
number to call if there are problems.
PROCEDURE STEPS:
-
Confirm consent signed.
-
Aspirate contents of
dental cartridge and waste.
-
Inject intralesional
suspension into empty cartridge (holds 1.8ml).
-
Assemble Ligmajet.
-
Prep are to be injected
with alcohol swabs.
-
Assist physician as
needed.
