PROCEDURE FOR INTRALESIONAL INJECTION

 

PURPOSE:    To promote anti-inflammatory response in a keloid or other lesion by injection of steroid solution 

 

EQUIPMENT: 

  1. Ligmajet

  2. Steroid Intralesional suspension

  3. 2 Alcohol swabs

  4. Gloves

  5. 2 4X4 's, unsterile

  6. 3ml Syringes

  7. 20 gauge Needle

  8. Dental 30 gauge needle

  9. Dental Cartridge, empty                                  

 

NURSING ACTION:

  1. Explain procedure to patient.

    1. Medication will be injected into the lesion.  There will be some discomfort for a short time.

  2. Assess for allergy to local anesthesia.

  3. Baseline vital signs and as indicated.

  4. Document site of lesion injected.

  5. Asses tolerance to procedure (pain/discomfort).

  6. Give patient family discharge instructions.

    1. Observe for s/s of infections:  swelling, redness or drainage.

    2. Give clinic phone number to call if there are problems.

PROCEDURE STEPS:  

  1. Confirm consent signed.
  2. Aspirate contents of dental cartridge and waste.
  3. Inject intralesional suspension into empty cartridge (holds 1.8ml).
  4. Assemble Ligmajet.
  5. Prep are to be injected with alcohol swabs.
  6. Assist physician as needed.
