  1. GOVERNING RULES OF PROFESSIONAL NURSING ORGANIZATION

2. CONFIDENTIALITY

    1. The following information is considered patient directory information and may be released in accordance with UAMS Administrative Guide Release of Patient Directory Information Policy (3.1.20) and Addendum J.4 and Addendum J.5: patient name, location in the facility, one word statement of condition and religious affiliation (available only to the clergy).  Patients may restrict or prohibit release of this directory information.
    2. Nursing personnel are not authorized to release information directly to the media under any circumstances. Media requests received directly on the patient units are referred to the appropriate individuals or departments. During normal business hours, medial requests for patient information are directed to UAMS University Relations representatives. Licensed nursing personnel on the patient units may release patient condition information to UAMS University Relations representatives. During evening, nights weekend and holiday hours patient information may be released by ADON's or Directors directly to the media as described in Clinical Programs Policy PS 2.02.

3. PATIENT SUPPORT SERVICES

    1. Patient Rights
    1. Services not available at University Hospital, but required by a patient, may be provided by special arrangements. The Director or Assistant Director of Nursing is contacted to assist with these arrangements.
    2. UAMS respects the patient’s right to communication about care and treatment, including patients with special communications needs. Staff utilizes the ATT Language Line or UAMS Translation Services for foreign language interpretation (Refer to Clinical Programs Policy PS 2.08).

The Director or Assistant Director of Nursing is contacted to assist with materials for the hearing or sight impaired. The patient’s family will not be asked to interpret medical information or consent.  If pateint refuses interpreter services this is to be documented in the medical record and sign form Med Rec 2519-SP (Refer to Clinical Programs Policy PS 2.07)
