SUBJECT: EMPLOYEE TRANSFER
SOURCE: Policy Standards, Section K, Selection/Retention/Development/Evaluation/Credentialing of Nursing Personnel

Inpatient Nursing employees may transfer to another unit after completion of twelve (12) months employment on the unit, unless other arrangements are negotiated with the Nursing Director and/or Clinical Services Manager at the time of employment.

The date of transfer will occur at the beginning of a two-week pay cycle and will be dependent upon the needs of the units & the employee, and will be accomplished within 6-8 weeks, if possible.

Selections for transfer will be based on individual qualification and merit.

Persons who have received a written disciplinary notice will not be eligible for transfer for up to one year from the disciplinary notice date, unless the receiving Nursing Director and/or Clinical Services Manager agree to accept the request.

The licensed person desiring to transfer to another unit initiates the transfer. It becomes his/her responsibility to:

  1. Ascertain the available positions posted in Nurse Recruitment. Employee may discuss needs and desires with other Clinical Services Managers and/or Nursing Directors to confirm available positions. Before transfer request is processed, employee is required to submit to Nurse Recruitment written acknowledgment from current manager indicating employee's intent to transfer.
  2. Employees who meet the criteria for transfer may apply for a transfer after completion of a transfer application. Non-licensed personnel can obtain the appropriate form from the Human Resource Department and are requested to return the completed form to the Human Resource Department. (UAMS Administrative Guide Policy Employee Transfer / Promotion 4.5.17). Licensed employees can obtain the appropriate transfer form from the Nurse Recruitment Office.
  3. Make an appointment with the potential receiving Clinical Services Manager and/or Nursing Director for an interview using Nurse Recruitment facilitation.

If the employee is accepted for transfer, the time frame decision will be discussed by employee and Clinical Services Managers or Nursing Directors from both units. The accepting unit is responsible to notify transferring unit of acceptance and the accepting unit completes transfer paperwork.

Transfer may also be initiated at the request of the supervisor in an attempt to provide a more suitable position for an employee.

  1. Unlicensed staff desiring to transfer should submit their intent to transfer to their current CSM.
