SUBJECT: RESTRAINT

Restraint is only to be used when restraint alternatives have been determined to be ineffective to protect the patient, staff, or others from harm.  When application of restraint is necessary, the least restrictive method based on the individual patient's assessed condition will be used.  Restraint shall be discontinued at the earliest possible time, regardless of the length of time in the order.
