SUBJECT: EMERGENCY INTRAVENOUS SOLUTIONS

Patients with emergency intravenous drips should be transferred to an intensive care area within a two (2) hour period after the emergency drip is started.

The intravenous drips classified as emergency include, but are not limited to:

1. Dopamine *
2. Lidocaine **
3. Vasopressin
4. Pronestyl
5. Nitroglycerine

Exceptions:

*Dopamine may be given on the general units for renal perfusion therapy at doses of 1-5 mcg/kg/min. through central IV access according to unit policy.

**Sub-cardiac therapeutic doses of IV Lidocaine may be given for pain control.
